Description

The AEC-Q200 NC range is designed to achieve the maximum capacitance range possible for a given component size and high voltage but 100% coating of the chip after mounting, including especially between the pc board and the component (between the mounting pads) is mandatory to ensure flashover does not occur. This range is tested and approved to automotive specification AEC-Q200.

MLCCs are particularly suitable for high voltage applications where small size is required. For standard high voltage capacitors a coating may be required to be applied post soldering. The NC range is designed to achieve the maximum capacitance range possible for a given component size and high voltage, but 100% coating of the chip after mounting, including especially between the board and the component (between the mounting pads) is mandatory to ensure flashover does not occur. To ensure the coating achieves total coverage around all four exposed sides of the chip, it may be necessary to slot or cut the PCB under the chip. Knowles / Syfer application note AN0043 gives more information on the coating requirements. This range is fully compliant with the RoHS, REACH and WEEE directives.
